Resolution Rescue Challenge
DAY 1 - THE CANDIDA SPIT TEST
DAY 1: THE CANDIDA SPIT TEST
Welcome to Day 1 of the Resolution Rescue Challenge!
This challenge is all about priming your body to EASILY lose excess weight before you even change your diet! As a Nutritional Therapy Practitioner, I know that the food you put into your body is immensely important for long term health, but when it comes to weight loss, it's only one piece of the puzzle.
so let’s get to it and discuss some of those other pieces.
Today we’re talking about the super sexy topic of yeast and fungus overgrowth (also known as Candida) in your intestines and how it can make weight loss really difficult.
If you’ve never considered that your sugar cravings might MEAN something, this topic is going to blow your mind.
The various strains of yeasts and fungus that grow in your gut, such as Candida, survive by eating sugars and simple starches. When their populations grow out of control, due to antibiotic use or birth control pills, for example, many people experience sugar cravings because those little buggers are HUNGRY and they’re signaling for you to feed them!
other symptoms of candida include:
Cravings for sweets
White coating on the tongue
Loss of sex drive
Chronic sinus and allergy issues
Digestive problems (gas + bloating)
Weak immune system
Urinary tract infections
But now for the good news: You’re not going to guess about whether or not you have an overgrowth of yeasties and beasties…you’re going to TEST!
The DIY Spit Test isn’t foolproof by any means, but it’s a good indicator for what’s going on internally. Don’t get stressed if you suspect that you DO have some yeasty and beasty weeds overtaking your intestinal garden…we’ll be talking about doing some weeding and then replanting the pretty flowers in a few days.
HOW TO DO THE DIY SPIT TEST
1. As soon as you wake up, spit (about a dime size amount) into a glass filled 1/2 way with cold water. Don't brush your teeth first!
2. Let it sit for about 15 minutes to see what happens. Continue to monitor for 45 min.
3. If the saliva either grew long legs, suspended itself in the middle of the glass or sunk to the bottom like a cloud, you may have an overgrowth of Candida or other strains of yeast in your body. Low Candida would mean your spit just sat on top. (This is good!)
4. Repeat for 3-4 mornings to see if results are consistent.
Phew, that’s a lot to learn for day 1…
